Remote Working in the Triangle: November Newsletter πŸ’»

Happy November, co-remote workers of the Triangle!

Hope you've all had a chance to vote, or are prepping to do so by Tuesday. This one's going to be a nail biter!

Our big news this month is the launch of a new newsletter, which most of you have probably begun to receive already, called Thrive Remotely. You may remember a few months ago I told you all about a confederation of remote worker/digital nomad groups like ours that we'd become a founding member of, called United Digital Nomads. That group has decided to rebrand as Thrive Remotely, which we felt better captured the essence of what we're trying to do: make remote work actually work for you, help with career growth, work-life harmony, and finding joy in the daily grind.

Since we formed the group earlier this year, we've continued to add chapters. We now have sister groups in Asheville, Charlotte, Wilmington, Greenville, Austin, Chicago and Philadelphia and a collective 7,500 members between us. We hope to eventually better integrate these groups through various means, like joint travel experiences and communication platforms. But the first joint effort to come to fruition is this new shared national newsletter.

The Thrive Remotely newsletter will be weekly and contain thoughts and tips on the remote work lifestyle, professional resources, news relevant to remote workers/digital nomads, polls of our members, as well as insights, news and events from our various chapters...and more.

I'll still continue to put out a leaner version of this monthly 'Remote Working in the Triangle' newsletter, with our and other local events in the Triangle and updates relevant to our group specifically. But for broader insights into the remote lifestyle and news that can connect you with our other chapters and remote workers/digital nomads more broadly, you'll definitely want to stay signed up to Thrive Remotely too. If that's not your jam, you're of course welcome to unsubscribe, but I hope you won't. My goal for our group from the beginning has been to help you make the most of your location-independent lifestyle, and I think this link with other like-minded folks across the country is going to turbocharge that goal and bring lots of good things in the future. If you haven't started receiving it yet, you can sign up here.

Our upcoming events

Reminder that these are only the events already confirmed, and they are subject to change. We often post new events less than a week ahead of time, so be sure to follow us on Meetup to stay up on them as they're posted or adjusted. If you're interested in becoming an event host or joining our leadership team in another context, please get in touch!

PS - Here are a few more resources I've found useful as a 'digital semi-nomad':

Safety Wing - Short-term travel health insurance that covers you pretty much anywhere in the world and is easy to sign up for.

Hostelworld - For finding fun, social places to stay while traveling, and has reliable reviews (and there are many hostels listed with private rooms).

Couchsurfing - With this app you can find FREE places to crash while traveling, and usually with pretty cool local hosts. But if that's not your scene, they also have a "hangout" function, where at any given time, you can see who else is nearby wanting to meet up with other travelers to sight-see, grab coffee, go out and party, etc.

Donate
Triangle Remote is a labor of love, but unfortunately, love doesn't pay the bills associated with maintaining the group and its associated platforms. We're committed to never charging dues, but voluntary donations do go a long way to making this endeavor sustainable. So if you've gained something from our group, whether it be insights from this newsletter, fun times at our events, or connections on our Slack community, please consider making a small donation via credit card, PayPal or Venmo
at this link to help us keep going and continue to expand what we offer.

Happy July, co-remote workers of the Triangle! For better or worse, we're officially in that miserable humid time of the year, which is a great chance to re-discover some nice indoor air-conditioned places to work remotely. A few I've discovered lately are Fount Coffee + Kitchen, Daughters Coffee & Books, and Mid Bloom Coffee. If you know any good ones, shout them out in our Slack community! The big thing coming up for us this month our retreat in Asheville from July 16-20, where a bunch of...

Happy June, co-remote workers of the Triangle! Hope you're all enjoying what's probably those last few weeks where it's pleasant to do some outdoor remote working before it gets brutally hot. If you're ever in the market for some new coffee shops to try out, you can always check out our spreadsheet of good remote work spots around the Triangle. Some of my personal favorite venues with outdoor seating are Namu, Guglhupf, Caffe Driade and Duke University. Just a few bits of news from us this...

Happy May, co-remote workers of the Triangle! And hello after a bit of a hiatus from this newsletter. I hope you've all been enjoying the separate Thrive Remotely newsletter put out every week by our parent group, with all sorts of resources and musings on how to thrive in your life as a remote professional. This Triangle-specific newsletter will be a bit less frequent as we put more time into that one, but we'll still pop in regularly with news, events and anything else relevant to remote...
